Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) and Northern LIP

The Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) and Northern LIP are initiative that are focused on improving access to, and the coordination of, effective services that facilitate immigration settlement and integration. The community needs to be united and knowledgeable of what currently exits and of what is needed to do this. In a landscape where the labour market is going through such an important transition and where employers are beginning to look outside of the country to fill positions both anticipated and current , a better support system is needed to ensure the successful relocation of newcomers to Thunder Bay and surrounding region  if we wish to retain these new employees in our organizations. Supports such as cross-cultural communications and soft skills, as well as professional networking and social networking for spouses and other family members all contribute to the successful transition of new families to our city, and new employees to our business and organizations. Employers don't always have the time to assist newcomers with all of their settlement needs. An Immigrant Employers Network would enable a group to come together, composed of businesses, government, funders, community organizations, educational institutions and immigrants themselves to create an infrastructure where we can all work together to assist newcomers to Thunder Bay and surrounding area. This would help us to know where we can refer our new employees to get the assistance they need, be it with, settlement services, networking, sports clubs, or good shopping. Theses are all factors that contribute to a Welcoming Community, and a Welcoming Thunder Bay and region which will entice newcomers to remain in Thunder Bay and the region, reduce employee turnover, that is experience in some organizations and ensure that we maintain our labour force in the future.
