WHAT ARE LOCAL IMMIGRATION PARTNERSHIPS?
A mechanism through which Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) supports the development of community based partnerships that are focused on improving access to, and the coordination of, effective services that facilitate immigration settlement and integration
The means by which stakeholders engage in a locally driven population growth strategy
An avenue to help better integrate immigrant needs in municipal planning
Act as an incubator for ideas, to measure trends, identify needs and mobilize the appropriate community resources to meet those needs
THE NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO LOCAL IMMIGRATION PARTNERSHIP (NWO LIP)
Includes all the municipalities and townships within the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association, has been funded through IRCC since 2011, and aims to meet the following objectives:
Develop partnerships and community-based planning around needs of newcomers;
Improve awareness of - and access to- existing inclusion and settlement initiatives available for employers and newcomers;
Oversee the implementation of a broad-based community plan that fosters labour market access, social inclusion and sustain able welcoming communities;
Achieve outcomes indicated by increased economic, social, political/civil participation by newcomers

economic development officers/corporations
municipal, provincial, federal leaders and staff
community groups
